Director, Breast Cancer Program, Cooper Hospital

Biography: View Webcasts by Generosa Grana, MD
Sharing in the breast cancer experience with her patients and their families has proven to be the most challenging and the most rewarding part of Dr. Grana's professional career. While the medical treatment of the disease is critical for improved outcomes, meeting the emotional and psychological needs of the individual woman is equally important.

Beginning her career as a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Grana received her medical degree from Northwestern University, and pursued a residency in Internal Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. She completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Temple University Hospital. This was followed by a two year NCI funded fellowship in preventive oncology and cancer genetics at Fox Chase.

Dr. Grana's interests have focused on three areas; 1) the treatment of breast cancer 2) the genetic aspects of cancer with particular emphasis on risk assessment and preventive strategies for patients, their families as well as high-risk individuals 3) the special needs of minority populations with particular emphasis on early detection programs for cancer in these populations. Continuing to work actively in these three areas, she provides patient care and is involved in community and professional education in these areas.

Committed to furthering the research agenda in these fields, Dr. Grana is involved in several research studies ranging from clinical trials on breast cancer treatment and prevention to more basic research studies focusing on the genetic and epidemiologic assessment of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer. As the director of the Woman's Cancer Screening Project of Camden County, Dr. Grana has worked closely with other groups in the county to provide free screening services to underserved women in the county. Dr. Grana has been involved in a variety of programs targeted to the lay public as well as to the oncology community. As an active volunteer, she continues to work with and support American Cancer Society programs and endeavors.
