Dr. Shasha is an expert in cancers of the male genitourinary tract, with a specific focus on treatment of prostate cancer. He has extensive experience using 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, permanent radioactive seed implants and temporary high dose rate implants of the prostate. Dr. Shasha is a leader of the Beth Israel Comprehensive Prostate Cancer Program, which allows men to discuss their treatment options in a dual consultation with a radiation oncologist and a urologic oncologist simultaneously.
Dr. Shasha also specializes in brachytherapy of all sites, malignancies of the head and neck, and palliative medicine. He is collaborating with the department of pain medicine and palliative care in an effort to foster high quality patient care. Dr. Shasha is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the American Brachytherapy Society.
Dr. Shasha attended McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada. His residency training was in Radiation Oncology, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Dr. Shasha's clinical studies are in prostate, bladder and testicular cancers, brachytherapy, intraoperative radiation therapy, and conformal proton radiation.
His current research includes the studies of organ and function preservation, anemia in cancer patients, quality of life, permanent low dose rate brachytherapy and temporary high dose rate brachytherapy, and intraoperative radiation therapy.
