| Allison Spitz lives in Phoenix, Arizona and is excited about her “sweet sixteen” party coming in January. One would never know she has IBD. Besides a full school schedule of honors classes, she is a cheerleader, on the speech team, performs with a teen theatre troupe and is also a member of two youth groups. For two weeks every summer, Allison travels with other teens doing mitzvot (good deeds) around the Southwest. “Pessimistic thoughts never enter my mind,” she says about coping with IBD. Even during her sickest times, she was the one keeping her family’s spirits high. She enjoys being a voice for CCFA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and for other children with IBD. CCFA’s Camp Odyssey was a life-changing experience for Allison, allowing her to bond with other teens with IBD and making life-long friends. She has raised over $4,000 for the local CCFA Pacesetter Walk. One observation she has made about all kids with IBD is that, “they are all good-looking, smart, and strong.” |
