Biography:
Cynthia LaBella, MD, is the medical director of the new Institute for Sports Medicine at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. LaBella is also an instructor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. With a background in both pediatrics and sports medicine, Dr. LaBella is uniquely qualified to care for the sports-related injuries and medical needs of young athletes. Her research efforts focus on identification of risk factors for injury in youth sports and development of strategies for prevention. She is a member of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee of the Illinois High School Association and was the investigator of a research study on the protective effect of mouthguards in college basketball. Dr. LaBella received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and did her residency in the department of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
